- valhalla360NavigatorIf you want to tow heavy, move up to the 3/4 or 1 ton and get the big diesel.
This was never marketed as a heavy duty towing option. It did fine for what it was designed for. - steve-n-vickiExplorerYou cant please everyone

The Ecodiesel combined with the Ram 1500 chassis has lost some luster for me. Just a little too much compromise, I think. With that said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that towing performance.
It definitely needs to evolve some.
For starters it needs to be able to haul more and it needs and exhaust brake. - TurnThePageExplorerThe Ecodiesel combined with the Ram 1500 chassis has lost some luster for me. I knew I wasn't the only one thinking that :B - MM49ExplorerWhat's not to like? It did a good job at the towing and a great job around town.
MM49 - 1wayhighwayExplorerlooks like it made it in one piece and with good MPG.
- naturistNomadI don't see that as a flop, either. Dragging that much weight up a mountain between 9,000 and 12,000 feet, holding 50+ mph and 6+ mpg, without drama is better than some much faster trucks. But to each his own.

Now what would be interesting is testing the efficiency of both trucks, have them side by side with the same load and driven up the mountain at the same speeds (RAM floored and Ford just throttling to match the RAM). Then we can see if that supposed 50% better fuel economy on the RAM would hold up. I'm figuring it would fall back to only 25 or 30% better fuel economy on the RAM.
That is a good point. If the Ford was over a minute faster up the hill, not surprising it used more fuel.
Although, while I'm a big fuel economy guy, testing the economy wide open up a short stretch is kinda pointless! - ScottGNomadLooks like a winner to me and it fits a nice niche.
