Ram Engine Oil QUestions

OP, go on Bobistheoilguy.com and research what oil will work best for your situation.
Personally, I think you will be more than fine with almost any oil, and any grade from 0w-20 up to 5w-30. I use 0-20 in the v-6 and 5-20 in the hemi. 0-20 is syn, and the hemi gets 5w-20 farm and fleet brand ( made by Citgo) Dino oil. The hemi has 189k on it. It's my wife's work vehicle, and we will run it until it dies.

I ran Mobil-1 5w-30 in my 5.7L Hemi for the 120k miles I owned it. Ran like a new one when I traded it.

I just located someone that sells Redline, ester based, real synthetic near here. You can order it online too about 11.00 a quart I think.
Might want to give it a try.

Your either missing something or making this choice harder than it needs to be (been there and done that myself lol). The 0w oils are for frigid temps on a regular basis. And by frigid I mean 0° or lower very often. Yes, it may flow a tad bit better at cold temps than the 5w, but you nor your engine will ever be able to tell the difference IMO. The 5w 30 (which others have also already recommended) will give you the best of both worlds. Great viscosity at cold starts and very good protection during warmer weather and towing. Use a good high quality synthetic oil in the 5w 30 and never look back. Hope this helps!

Nor does it matter if you switch back and forth.

The first number is the viscosity rating with cold temperatures and the second number is the rating for hot weather. Go with the 5W30 for year round use. The 5W20 in theory might improve fuel economy by a tenth of a mile per gallon but that is all it will do.

Since both are allowed I would use the 20 in the winter and 30 in the summer. Both will work for either though.

Yeah I missed that 2500 point. You should be running 5w30 only. There is no need to switch back and forth.

Why do you say it doesn't have the MDS system?

The 5.7 in the 2500 or 3500 does not have MDS....as per the owners manual....hence the 5w30 recomme dation
