More gears, means more opportunities to be a peak power and efficiency at certain mph. More gears also helps on the decent too.
You should have been with us when we towed the Grape Vine in California with the 2001.5 and 5th wheel at around 20,500 combined. Going up South bound I was running the third lane out at 55 MPH, the truck speed limit. Traffic was heavy, with the 25-40 MPH trucks were in the second lane out and Lane one had the slow trucks. Faster trucks(think empty) would come in and out of lane three, AKA my lane. I could not go to lane four to pass one of these guys!!!
The forth lane had cars flying by at 70-75 MPH. It was like a Wild West movie keeping my eyes on all the vehicles ahead and behind me.
