Yup, and let's not forget what engine is in the F650/750's……. it sure is not a Ford. It's the same Cummins that is in all the Ram's.
You're right, the F650/750 does have the Cummins 6.7 and not the Powerstroke. The Cummins has a commercial duty longevity rating close to twice that of the Powerstroke and Duramax. However, the Ford version of the Cummins is detuned considerably, with the highest power rating being 360 hp, and that's available only in emergency vehicles. The lower power rating is to preserve longevity. I do wonder why Ford doesn't use a detuned Powerstroke in its larger trucks. I imagine it would still have a shorter design life.
If I were shopping for a heavy duty pickup (which is an oxymoron) if I were hotshotting and running millions of miles I'd buy a Ram or Dodge or whatever they are calling them this week. For personal use I really don't know. You could buy on appearance alone and probably be happy with any of the 3.
I agree with you in that for pickup truck use where you are only going to put 15 to 20 thousand miles a year on your truck, the Cummins doesn't really offer much over the other two engines. It might bring a little bit of added resale value but it looks like that would be off set by the poorer fuel economy. The 2013 Cummins has a little flatter power band than the other two, which I would appreciate, but then it is also the least quiet and I really appreciate how smooth and quiet the Ford is. The powertrains of these new trucks are no longer what seperates the trucks in my way of thinking.
