If that's the case, why are so many American corporations moving operations to other countries? Does it cost the same to make a Ram HD in Mexico as it does in the US?
Cheaper labor, less worker safety, less restrictions on pollution, lower tax rates...
All translate to higher wages for the girls and boys at the top! If you look at the top executives pay, bonuses and benefits and compare to the hourly workers they cost a whole lot more to have around. But when they screw up and get the boot they jump out with their golden parachutes! :M Mot of the time costing workers jobs to pay for them.
I'm all for fixing the trade BS and the wall but there are other things to be fixed also. BTW I voted Trump.

Negative Ghost Rider.... Ram is still a foreign brand.
Fish you should get a job as a news reporter. Just like them you think if you keep repeating the same lies over and over it will become true. But here is a fact, lies will never come true no matter how hard you try and spin them.

Should take that long unless you are not paying attention or remain in denial. Tellerson's 180 million dollar retirement package, and he is going to turn on companies that will pay out like that, NOT!
In place of draining the swamp, there is a whole new gang of swampsters coming on board.
Yes there's been some pretty questionable choices in the last while (son in law??). :h

Flying this flag in a 55 up RV park in SoCal since October. You would be amazed at the amount of Canadians that have came to me saying "I sure like your flag" or "I am from Canada but I am sure he will help our Country also".
The positive business environment and the positive attitude of the average joe will make North America prosperous again.
Trump talks "fair trade" big difference compared to "free trade".
Keep this civil, it may stay open for a while!

However, based on recent electoral college results, it certainly appears many in this country are wanting to look at a much more one-sided, "smaller picture".
It's going to be very interesting to see how this kind of approach works in conjunction with this extremely co-dependent relationship we've developed with the rest of the world.
I believe that the majority of American's feel that trade policies are one sided in favor of other nations and want at least some correction. The auto makers and supplier's make a huge contribution to the American economy and the Japanese have invested billions and employed thousands if workers but I wonder if their moving of the Corolla is the being of reduced manufacturing here. Honda has a presence there. As do a total of 19 auto companies.
The top 5 trading partners and deficits from last year.
Canada - $576.7 billion traded with a $15.5 billion deficit.
China - $599.4 billion traded with a $367 billion deficit.
Mexico - $532.1 billion with a $60.6 billion deficit.
Japan - $193.6 billion traded with a $68.6 billion deficit.
Germany - $174.8 billion traded with a $74.9 billion deficit.

Last years deficit? 500 BILLION. That's $1.37 billion a day. How long can we continue to support this. Our deficit, entitlements, defense of other nations, etc. I am unable to find any country that we have a surplus with.
I have a list of companies bookmarked that I reference every time I make a purchase. The order of my purchases being with companies saying they are made in U.S.A. Can't find what I am looking for? I check content. My food purchases are one of the items I check country of origin. Can you imagine how difficult it is to find canned fruit with USA content? They are from all over the world. If I can't find US content I refuse to buy it and complain to the manager although that does little good. Wal-Mart is the worse offender of not buying local or domestic produce and fruit. I find onions, potatoes, apples etc. made either locally or domestic next to imported items at, near or even cheaper.
Do we really need to import apples fro New Zealand? I believe the average shopper doesn't even look. - otrfunExplorer IIDeleted.

One of the down sides is that rail has invested heavily in moving goods from mexico to the US. Now rail takes a hit. Where are locomotives and rail cars built?
Of course then trucking should increase on the US side.
As was said, there is a little more to trade than just spouting off some slogans and sound bites.
Rail is so busy moving Oil and Coal they have little time for freight away.
Coal is going bye bye. - otrfunExplorer II

Really?! Just make less profit? Where do you think healthy companies source some of the money they use to pay their employees? Invest in R&D? Pay stockholders?otrfun wrote:
No it's IMO cheaper, that's why they're there. My point is that US made cars set the price because it costs more to build here. If Ram moved back to the US I don't feel the price would be more because they still need to be competitive. They'll just make less profit.goducks10 wrote:

. . . I don't see any impact on auto prices whether they're made here or somewhere else. Prices have to be competitive.
As a CEO working with reduced profits what would you cut first? Wages? Salaries? R&D? Stockholder returns? - goducks10Explorer
