I can't speak for anybody but myself Don.
In my case I own a business and NEED my truck to run every single time I turn the key. I don't have time to deal with service departments for warrantee repair. The down time can kill a small business.
Case in point: A very good friend owns a small business and had a Ford 6.0. The thing was always in the shop for something. Even though his truck was under warrantee it was killing his business.
Another case is a friend with horses. She runs around the state doing rodeo stuff. I think you can see this would not be a good time for a part or engine to fail. You just can't have horses in a trailer along side of the road in July.
Another case is keeping your truck for a long time. I know I'm odd man out on this deal but I keep my trucks a long time. I just don't make the money to buy a 50, 60, 70 thousand dollar truck every 3 to 5 years or so like a lot of you do on this forum. I don't need my truck to make it just past warrantee period. I need to have that truck last 20 years past the warrantee period without a major failure. A 10, 15 20 thousand dollar repair bill is just out of the question.
Then there is the parts availability and safety issue. I have a BMW that has a recall on the airbags. I went to take it in after they issued the recall and they said there were no airbags to be had. Well my daughter is driving this car and the recall still isn't done on it. Some of these trucks on the market take months to get the parts in. How is that going to work with a small business that may only have 1 or 2 trucks in it's fleet?
Anyway, that's why "I" get pissed off. :B
Please tell us what truck it is that you have that is 23 years old(20 years past warranty) and has had no major problems? How many miles does this truck have on it? Have you had any issues at all with this 23 year old truck?
So tell us what diesel we should buy that has no problems? We know from your constant posting that it is not a Ford. It couldn't be a Duramax as they have previously had injector issues, overheating, and recently DEF issues with trucks going into limp mode. Of course the Ram has had tranny issues, front end issues including buybacks, brake controllers not working. So what is this perfect diesel that is going to go 23 years and have no issues? I want to know so I can purchase it.
