So it is a 4x4 specific issue.........
I;ve had a nut fall off a steering linkage on a GM ifs unit, hit a bump going into a safeway parking lot. Bolt attached to the steering bar came out, no steering! Glad it did not happen 120 mile before coming down a pass with a 90 degree turn with a 2000' cliff in front of me at 50-60 mph.......I would not be typing this......
