Rambler as a tow vehicle ?

Just for yukes I thought That I would check out the AARP-Hartford auto insurance . Every time that I type in 2014 Ram as my truck , the form jumps ahead and types in 2014 Rambler , I have not owned a Rambler for 45 years .

  • Buddy in high school got his great grandmas pristine 63? Ambassador.
Cool unique car for several reasons.
Never quite seen an engine grenade as bad as that one though! Only had like 30k mike on it at close to 30 years old and there may have been more parts on the ground than left in the engine!
Zero warning too. No tick/knock/noise, nothing just bam done at midnight on the freeway.
  • My father had a '66 Rambler Ambassador that he used to pull a 22' long offshore fishing boat for a couple of years. It had the 232 cu in 6 cylinder, manual steering and manual brakes and would make 55mph on level ground flat on the floor but it made several 400 mile trips to the coast for him. The '69 Newport with a 383 and trailer tow package was a major upgrade.

My brother's 1970 retired state police Javelin with a 390 was quite a different animal. The police used to say that it could catch people going 160mph. Considering that he owned it in the late '70s when most cars couldn't hit 100mph it was quite exceptional.
  • The old Rambler wagon Mom carted us around in had vacuum wipers. They weren't worth a darn. Stop going uphill and darn near flying off downhill. I'd like to have it now with a Cummins conversion.
  • I remember as a kid, in Germany in the mid 60's, cruising down the Autobahn at about 100 MPH in a Rambler being driven by a friend of my fathers..
    But it wasn't a 2014 model year! :B

I was grinning and loving it because my dad never drove that fast!
  • One thing I remember about the 1964 Rambler Classics was that the front suspension assemblies were bolted to the frames and here in Wisconsin the bolts had a tendency to rust off. Everyone that I knew that owned one, had a front wheel assembly fall off. You could check the bolts and they looked good but then they broke without warning.
  • Probably because so many companies have owned the Chrysler corporation they got lost.
