I am not sure they are trying to solve the trailer jack issue for some trailers. It looks like it is split in the middle. If you have clearance problems dropping the tailgate does this actual solve that by opening horizontally?
Yes! - mich800ExplorerI am not sure they are trying to solve the trailer jack issue for some trailers. It looks like it is split in the middle. If you have clearance problems dropping the tailgate does this actual solve that by opening horizontally?
- dodge_guyExplorer IINow there's a solution to problem a lot of people didn't know they had. I see that as the next big thing!
BTW, on the clearance.....my excursion has no issue with opening with the trailer hooked up! - catfishmontanaExplorerLooks like it could come in handy every now and then.

Why? Tailgate needs to be either open, closed, or off the truck. I'm not seeing the virtue of this design. :h
Number one reason: Because they think it will sell trucks.
What is the purpose of LED lighting in a truck bed? Same reason.
Are you for real? I'd take the light over that retarded tailgate.
A manufacturer does not offer ANYTHING unless they think it will sell.
Why would they purposely do anything different? They are in business to make a profit. No sales = no profit.
Regarding LED lighting: I am sorry but I see no practical advantage over the cab mounted rear light that has worked well for years on thousands of truck. - lancekeysExplorerHow much does a replacement cost when you damage that one? Looks expensive to me!
- ScottGNomadI would opt for it. No heavy gate to close with one hand while holding something, no trailer clearance issues. I can see many uses for it.
- mowinExplorerSame negative comments were said about the ram box. They sell a ton of em.
- BenKExplorerNot for me...ask how much more does it add to the buy-in AND how much to have it
fixed (fender bender, to backing up into whatever, etc)
Plus it looks like a 50/50, so if the regular tailgate hits the trailer, so will
this one with either door
Will it hold as much when down as the all one piece used to? Like when a bucket
full of gravel dropped into the bed while the tailgate is closed. I've not been
able to open it when all the dirt/gravel/sand/etc was up against it...will it
hold over the years?
Will it get out of alignment when whatever smacks it while they are closed? My
Silverado has many, many, many dent/dings/scratches/etc from stuff flying into
it while closed and open (down)
Nifty, but again not for me - The_TexanExplorerNothing NEW about that design or use in a pickup. Ford/Lincoln had that design about 8-10 years ago and used it till at least the 2009 model.
