Why? Tailgate needs to be either open, closed, or off the truck. I'm not seeing the virtue of this design. :h
So soccer moms can put groceries in the back without leaning in over the tail gate. Love the mindset where the family grocery getter needs to be a 1/2 ton pickup, Pretty sure Ram makes their bread and butter from this crowd, gotta play to them ;)
You have that wrong, the soccer mom drives the $60,000 F250 crew cab FX4 with the diesel engine... you have to be prepared for that dirt parking lot!
Yeah, and I need one of these to tow my little camper. - dshelleyExplorerLooks innovating, and like all other new options, like it? Buy it. Don't like it, buy something else.

This is much cooler. Now if Dodge came out with a tailgate that could do this then I would be impressed!
And at least the Ford stripper pole is cool at parties! :B - bluie5ExplorerI could see where this would be handy. Just not enough to actually want one.
- Not sure I would pay for this particular option, but then again I said that about Ford's man step. :B
The flip/swing tailgate is a old station wagon tailgate idea with a split feature in the middle. :h - ib516Explorer II

Regarding LED lighting: I am sorry but I see no practical advantage over the cab mounted rear light that has worked well for years on thousands of truck.
You've obviously never had to look for something under a hard tonneau cover then. I see LED bed lights as extremely useful. - thomasmnileExplorer

Same negative comments were said about the ram box. They sell a ton of em.
Ram Box is a good idea since the long bed trucks seem to be vanishing and it saves buying a bed box. Downside, the cost as an option and if not mistaken, isn't the payload of a truck so equipped downgraded from the same truck without a Ram Box? - mich800Explorer

I am not sure they are trying to solve the trailer jack issue for some trailers. It looks like it is split in the middle. If you have clearance problems dropping the tailgate does this actual solve that by opening horizontally?
Yes!
Thanks, I did not feel like doing the geometry on it. My tailgate opens with ease with the electric jack so a redesign never crossed my mind. - GreentreenaExplorerinteresting... I can see times when a swing tail gate might be better.
I give them credit for trying to re-invent ideas. Who knows if it will catch on. I seriously thought GM's 4 way steering trucks would catch on. I was sold on the commercials showing the truck back up a trailer into an impossible spot.
