Thats a selling feature? Would hate loading a quad etc on a tailgate like that...
I think most, if not all, manufacturers recommend removing the tailgate to load a quad or bike in the bed. If you had a tailgate that swung open like this, you wouldn't need to remove and store the tailgate...
And out in the real world, no one removes the tailgate exclusively to load a quad, and many use the tailgate as part of the parking spot, as many quads are larger than truck boxes.
This gimmick REDUCES the functionality, as opposed to increasing it! - dshelleyExplorer

They oughta work on improving their half ton payload capacity before doing anything else.
Why? You want more payload, buy a 2500, 3500, 4500, or 5500. Pick the one that fits the need, buy it and enjoy it. Is it a difficult concept? - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerWell the Rams tailgate locks and if equipped with the security alarm I would think that would set it off.

Love Corvairs and hate it that Nadar killed them because of misconceptions based
on American Drivers no knowing HOW2 drive a rear engine with huge oversteering
The left the road tail first...just like the 911's of that era
They did have serious problems with ventilation. Especially their heaters, which
used air drawn in from around the exhaust manifolds...gas leaks gotcha asphyxiated... - The_TexanExplorerDodge is not innovative, just building on what Ford started , with their Lincoln pickup.

Maybe I'll break-out the sawzall and pick up some piano hinges at the "depot" this weekend :)

Hell, at $3,500 or more for a tailgate I wonder if they are going to come with a lock of some type. :E
This thing looks more complex and expensive than the Ford gate with a camera and stripper pole and those are $3,400+. 5 grand + maybe? :E
Well if you only damage one side it should be cheaper then a whole gate don't you think? Also what your forgetting is when you replace a tail gate all you buy is the damaged components. All of the other components are transferred from the damaged tailgate. So the number your quoting is a bit high. If your tailgate was so damaged that every component has to be replaced then your whole bed will be getting replaced also.
Again, why are some of you having an issue with the cost of a tailgate but an all aluminum Ford is OK :h . Ford has said that they are going to subsidize the cost of replacement parts so the owners insurance cost should not go up (not that word should).
Don
I'm not worried about that Don. I'm worried about the crankster that wants a fix and takes the thing off and sells it to a chop shop for $200 bucks.
Like I said, the Ford gate is $3400 bucks to replace. What will this thing cost to replace?
250 bucks according to my insurance deductible. - bpoundsNomadI like the idea. I would have to evaluate the design before deciding. It still needs to be a strong tailgate when lowered in the normal fashion and I question whether it will be.
Barn doors make loading stuff at the rear of the truck easier. No need to reach across, or slide the stuff across, the tailgate. It also makes it easy to step up on the step bumper and then right into the truck bed. - MvanderExplorerI always thought someone would come out with a drop down bed side for the ultimate in access.
