North America likes a heavy tongue. If you lived in Europe, a 1.9 liter compact SUV would be able to tow a larger trailer than your full size SUV can here in the States... thank the insurance companies for that one.
Double check the ratings for your hitch receiver - it should be stamped into the actual steel somewhere. The 2 in. receiver on my truck has stampings; 550 lbs no weight distributing, 1000 lbs weight distributing
