I bought my truck and trailer (in sig pic) for a 5-week trip from Portland, OR to NYC (and back) .. I was so happy that I bought a combination that matched exactly according to the specs, that I could afford.
I learned quickly that the specs are for flat ground. It tows perfectly on flat ground with decent gas mileage. Up hills is where the issue is. 3 mpg, 30 mph and a transmission that's heating up.
With all that said, my trip went perfectly (second time ever towing any TT), aside from having to stop once for 45 minutes because of transmission overheating, and a broken leaf spring on the trailer covered by an aftermarket warranty.
My next truck will be much bigger, and will provide for a much happier camping experience. I've learned that you always want lots of room in your specs in case you meet a hill in your travels.
