Rare HD Truck

This weekend I saw a rare HD truck. We were in a campground near Nashville and I saw a long bed, regular cab, 4X4, dually 1-ton truck. It looked like a late model ('13 +) Silverado with a Duramax. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that combination but it just caught me completely off guard. I'm so used to seeing extended or crew cab trucks that the stance of this truck just looked so different. 20 or 30 years ago that would have been a common truck to see but these days it's almost non-existent.

I'll try to post a pic soon.

  • I'll stick to a full width box. I usually get rwd or do not lift 4x's as that makes the.bed.lower, easier to get things in and out of, including myself.
Hence why Navistar is a lopro version. Along with one reason I like GM trucks, lower bed heights vs Dodge or Ford.
These of course are my preferences, not someone else's.

  • Somehow when I saw the title of this thread I expected to see a picture of a Ford Ranger with 8 Lug rims and E rated All Steel Duravis tires on it

From the '30s well into the '70s you could get factory 9' stepside beds.
They were and still are a good idea, they're much easier to load and unload, particularly if you're shoveling and//or sweeping!
Often, if you're loading something like lumber, the extra space around the wheelsells in a fleetside isn't useable anyway, and those big sturdy steps on a stepwise really made it easy to reach the front.
I carried my first camper on a '59 Chevy stepwise 3/4 ton. And I carried all sorts of other stuff with it.
Those long stepsides really did work great.
  • I've seen a few short bed reg cab dually Fords in the 6.0 PSD years.

  • that's still my favorite combo. the classic pick up truck. i still think that looks the best. regular cab, long bed. i had a few of that combo. good memories
  • Yeah I always do a double take when I see any full-size regular cab!
  • Back in the 70's my uncle had a Dodge crew cab long bed pickup. There were hardly any of them around, and it was the ugliest thing anyone had ever seen.
  • I too remeber when the standard cabs were the norm and you never saw a four door HD truck. I remember having a conversation with my FIL about it 30 years ago.
Your right, they're super rare now!
