WDH will not cut the number in half. Being a newbie please do not listen to the dealerships. They are there to sell trailers. The WDH does not change your GCVWR. It simply transfers weight off the rear axle to the front axle of the car (increases the weight on the Front GAWR and Decreases the weight on the Rear GAWR) and puts some weight on the trailer axle.
My advice is to load it with the people, pets and items you will take to go camping and head to the scale as it doesnt lie. Do 2 measurements: First: Front Wheel of the truck on the first scale, with the rear wheels on the second scale, and trailer on the 3rd/4th scale (at Pilot CAT Scales this is $10) and then do the 2nd weight: Same as the first but unhitch the trailer. and get the reweigh ($2 at said pilot truck stop)
Take a look at several numbers:
GCVWR, GVWR, GAWR, and Tow Rating.
You do not want to exceed GAWR at all. 80-90% of the tow rating, and GCVWR and GVWR should leave 10% for cushion.
I will not say yes or no, because you are the one pulling it and paying for the engine/transmission/brakes/tires etc and stress of pulling something too big.
