I negotiated over the phone and emails, drove about the same distance to purchase. Never exchanged any money until I could see the TT. The dealer had it all set up inside for me to check it out when I got there (Feb purchase in the cold).
At worst I would give a deposit, but are they really going to sell that trailer in the day its going to take you to drive there?
The only concern I had was where to bring it for warranty. The closest dealer for me couldn't match the price and knew I was travelling for a different TT. They said they would still perform any warranty issues. I never had any issues that I couldn't handle myself with the factory and dealer I purchased from. I had a few issues at the PDI that were fixed on the spot and a couple I fixed with parts sent to me at my house.
