FWIW we have a 2004 Duramax with 125,000 miles. Mine never refills the containers but when checking the dipstick it usually shows full or very close.
I agree with the fact that there is oil left in the filter and the fact that it drains all over the darn skid plate.
Been using Rotella 15w-14 almost exclusively since the truck was new.
