Do it the easy way and just replace the entire dome. We patched one several times and it would hold for a bit, then start leaking again. Relacement domes are not that expensive, and it takes more time to clean and remove all the old sealant than to do anything else. Get it good and clean, use fresh sealant, fix it right, and forget about it.
