We were camping a couple of years ago in Myrtle Beach when a fierce thunderstorm blew in off the ocean. We had one of those pop up tents tied to the picnic table and awning out. The winds hit 80 mph. Many units around us had damage. The pop up tent of ours was destroyed in minutes, but the awning with the screw in anchors was holding, until the anchors pulled out of the ground. I scrambled quickly, ignoring the lightning and got the awning in with minor damage to one arm. I no longer trust having the awning strapped down. It is only out when we are sitting under it.
