ready for the road again

Still need to get the drivers side outer skin and wheel well of the truck bed repaired but....The air bags are back in operation. They guys at Truck Toyz in San Leandro Ca charged me $75 in labor and I paid $20for parts to replace the left side elbow on the airbag all the air lines and to relocate the inflation valves to just behind the front Tork Lift mount on the passenger side. Took them about an hour and they did a clean job. they said I got very lucky in that the bags themselves were not damaged, attributed it to the overload leaves and the stable loads holding the TC up and the tire belts not cutting the bag during the blow out.

new routing of the drivers side airline, it goes inside the boxed frame cross member

Passenger side showing both airlines

valves

and the TC back in place

all ready for working my first horse show EMT standby of 2014 this weekend.

  • I hope you have a happy ending on the rest of your repairs.

For years, I used a pump. I did the valves in different locations outside the truck. Eventually I mounted them in the cab, under the dash on the driver side. In the cold, rain, wind or heat, I sit in the seat in the cab to air the bags. No mud to clean off the valves was also nice. I eventually pampered myself, and installed an in-cab controller.

    Eric,
Nice to see things getting back to normal for you. Any estimates yet on getting the skin and wheel well repaired? Will that be something that your insurance will take care of?

Waiting on the tire mfg, filed a claim with them. Estimates range from $3200 to $4500 to replace side skin and rebuild the wheel well then paint it.

Glad to see you are getting back to normal. While I don't mind manually filling the air bags on my truck, the ultimate would be to have remote control and the gauges for each in the cab of the truck. Way too spendy for my blood though.

Did you replace both rear tires as a set?

too spendy for my blood too. only takes 3-4 pumps with my bike pump to set them if they were at minimum pressure

Bought one new tire in LA to get home, Les Schwab gave me a no charge replacement so that went on the other side and the original back tire from the passenger side became a much better spare than the one I had on there.
