The OP's question isn't about fuel mileage when towing but fuel mileage when not towing. However since you brought it up, most of us would consider just 6 - 8 mpg when towing pretty dismal unless it's a particularly large, heavy trailer or a particularly under powered tow vehicle. I've been towing for 12 yrs now with 3 different 1/2 ton 5.3L GM trucks, all running a 3.42 axle ratio, and my fuel mileage towing a variety of travel trailers weighing up to 5500 lbs loaded & ready to camp typically ranges from ~ 10.5 to 12.5 miles to the US gallon. Only if I encounter significant upgrades and / or heavy head winds does mileage occasionally drop below 10 mpg, which is fortunately not that often. If you experience much less than that you're towing too much trailer with your smaller 4.6L F150, as otherwise a properly sized combination should easily be able to achieve a 10 mpg average. :)
