2014 Grand Cherokee 3.0L diesel, I get around 28 mpg on highway at 75 mph (not towing). Towed our TrailManor 2417 (3500 lbs loaded for a week) from Denver to Telluride, CO (7 hours of mountains) and back, then another trip of 5 hours up into the mountains, also on gravel roads, 4x4, and averaged 21.5 mpg each trip. On highway, I went 65 mph.
Granted, our TM is not towing a wall into the wind like most full-height trailers, and that is likely why we get such good mileage. Had a 2004 Grand Cherokee gasser, and it got about 15.5 mpg towing on the plains. Have not towed on the plains with the new (diesel) Grand Cherokee.
