This is woe with short bed campers. I do have the wings on my Lance 165-s short bed and added an aluminum rack to the rear reciever to stow extra diesel fuel tanks and firewood for desert treks. I cut the square tube on the rack down short enough to just miss the rear bumper and drilled another pin hole for that location. I also added cranked up turnbuckles and chains to stabilize the rack also giving a better departure angle. The only problem is to keep the contents of the rack weather and dust free if needed with weather proof storage boxes short enough to fit under the overhang. I've seen some 5 foot wide racks of late and that would be good to increase the storage potential back there. The good news is, you can take or leave the rack when needed depending on the trip. On edit, further good news is that the contents of the rack cannot be bounced or lifted out without releasing the tension on the turnbuckles, an arduous task for a wayward miscreant.
