Recalcitrant. Sp.G 1.265cell-charging strategy?

Powertron-mrvac27m,600cca,160RC (?)12V wet cell battery. Two yr. old,little used,much abused (5 month storage x2) not 100%charged. Can't increase Sp. Gr.above 1.265. Multiple unsuccessful attempts at 15V up to 16.2volts.
Need a better strategy. Resting Voltage 12.65 is this the best I can expect?
This beyond my knowledge. Help is much appreciated.

Mighty Meanwell - a work in progress. I very much appreciate the three amigos (Mex,Landy& Niner) many, many battery charging posts
Thanks
  • Sounds to me like you have done all you can ... by running more than one Equalize charge. By your own admission the battery has been abused by neglect and lack of decent charge maintenance -- plus its at least two years old. The plates are probably heavily sulfated ... there are devices that 'might' remove that but the cost will exceed a new battery. Get a new battery. .. at least a Marine type deep discharge battery instead of a car starter type like you have now -- and don't allow it to discharge below about 12.2 volts. You should be able to get four or five years out of a properly maintained battery.
  • Right images, wrong Forum section. Ask a moderator to move it to "Tech Issues".

I'm not familiar with that battery but if you've made multiple attempts by increasing voltage, that may be a final resting SG.

  • Sorry, I inadvertently posted the wrong image. Hope this is correct.
