- ppineExplorer IITongue weight should be around 700 pounds plus.
Most Class III hitches are rated for 5,000 to 6,000 pounds convential pulling.
Add a weight distribution hitch and you will be fine at 7,000 pounds. - GrandpaKipExplorer IIUsually the ball has a weight rating stamped into it.
Agree, if your trailer is 7k pounds, the tongue weight is low. - APTExplorerFull height bumper pull trailers tend to tow comfortably with 13-15% TW vs. closer to 10%. 7000 pounds of loaded weight means means 900-1000 pounds of TW. In my experience towing with a half ton, a WDH provides noticeable benefits when towing over about 4000 pounds of TT weight. Check your receiver for tongue weight limits without a WDH. I think you need a WDH to tow that weight, which generally come with an adjustable height ball mount.

I have a bunch of Class 111 2 Inch tube receivers w/ 2" balls and 1" OD shank. Can I replace my 2" ball and use a 2-5/6 ball w/ 1" OD shank to tow a 7000 lb Ultra LITE 22 ft. Trailer. Hitch wt will be about 575-600 lbs. ?
I have bumper pull trailers with 2" and 2 5/16" balls.
I have several 2" tube type ball mounts with 1" hole rated at 7500 lbs and use a 2 5/6" ball.
Or a 2" solid mount with 1 1/4" hole size for a 10000 lb 2 5/16" ball for my heavier trailers. - If the insert is hollow, I would be a little concerned. I would use a solid shank.

- SoundGuyExplorerHitch ball size is 2 & 5/16".
- wanderingaimlesExplorerBasically, yes you should, but reconsider the tongue weight, for a 7000 lb trailer it should be closer to 900lbs than 600.
