For a 26ft and longer TT, I would look for a Chevy 2500HD with a 6.0L, 6Speed and 4.10 axle for durability and reliability. Because trucks hold their value, and I like heated/cooled leather seats, I'd end up paying more than $20k for a lower mileage Silverado loaded up with features.

I got lucky last year. I found a 2002 silverado extended cab Z71 4x4 with tow package with 48000 miles on it for $14000.00 It was a one owner. Towed the jayco qwest 25 footer to Kansas and back last october and just got home from Savannah this past Sunday. A good truck is out there, just be patient and keep looking everywhere.

I paid 24k for a tundra with 80k miles. I towed a 2k pup with it for a while. Now I tow a 7k TT at 120k. It seems to run fine.

100k miles is nothing nowadays. Cars/trucks easily go 200k without many issues. And yes, because a new truck costs upwards of $60k a 5 year old used with 100k will be more than what you think.

Check into full size SUV's you get the same running gear as a 1/2 ton truck but with a lower purchase price.

Comments about only 250lbs of gear in trucks and 500lbs of passengers morphs to 1750lbs of grills, boats, bikes, whatever rather quickly.

3/4 ton material if you plan on recreating at all.

Trucks last a long time which means they hold their value a long time. I highly recommend something new enough to get a 6-spd transmission, so 2009+ F-150, 2009+ GM twins. I'd rather pay $30k for a new crew cab pickup than $20-25k for a used one with 100k miles.

Thanks for the comments...After shopping for a newer truck as I have a 1999 Dodge 1500 quad 4x4 having constant mechanical probs, Ive found it difficult to find any in the 20k range that does not have 100k miles on them... how does one find a decent truck to tow a TT without paying 30k plus? How can one afford these trucks? Im not cheap but Im not paying 24k for a truck with 100k miles on it... thats insane... any suggestions would be very appreciated...

I agree most 1/2tons will do it just fine. My tundra pulls out hideout 6400 empty just fine. Some of the weight police will say you need a 450 series dully with overloads.
