So, yesterday we plugged the camper up at home to see if the refrig worked. Left it on for 3 hours. It does work! Anyway when I plugged it up and the fan came on outside, 3 hours later when I went back to check on it the fan was still running. So, last night dh plugged up the camper working on the water pump and the refrig was turned off and the fan ran the whole time we had the camper plugged up. The only way it cut off is if he shut the main breaker off. So, how can the fan run with the dang thing turned off? I thought maybe the knob was off but no matter what I changed it to it wouldn't turn off. What's going on? Thanks!

You sure you had it on 110 and not 12V? Assuming of course it is a 3 way.

The only fan I'm aware of are the ones we've all added ourselves to help exhaust heat from the back of the refrig chase. Have you seen this fan? I'm thinking it was an add on by the last owner and has a different power source. I added such a fan to my unit and it is powered and switched independent from the refrigerator power.

If it is like mine:1. The fan is not part of the refrigerator (its an add-on).2. The fan runs on AC power and is wired to run continuously.You may want to add a thermostat to control the fan.

Along with what has already been said somebody just ran the fan to the AC in the back of the fridge and never put an on/off switch in the circuit. Take the cover off the outside of the fridge and look for the AC plug and see if it is plugged in there. Try unplugging the fridge at this location with it plugged into AC and see if the fan is still on. Also are you sure it is a fan in the fridge and not a fan in the converter. The converter has a fan and it only runs when it is plugged into AC and the converter gets warm.

As it appears, we have 2 fans in our fridge compartment. They run almost all the time. DH is starting to suspect that's part of the reason our batteries drain so much quicker.

We haven't done much cool weather camping, but will try to note if they cycle less in cooler weather. Interesting thought.

My 8cu.ft Dometic(#2852), has a stock built in fan, it runs whether the fridge is using propane or AC.
When it is cool out, the fan rarely turns on, but when it is hot out, the fan runs about 80% of the time.
According to the manual, the fan is 12 volt and is fused at 3 amps.

My 2009 KZ 5th Wheel came from the factory with a fan installed in the back of the fridge. Mine has a thermostat somewhere and I only hear it running when it is hot outside, which is all the time it seems in Houston.

Like Butch50 said be sure it is not the converter fan running. I am new to TT and took me awhile to figure out why the fridge was running at odd times. It was not. It was actually the converter fan which is located directly below the fridge.

This was the computer box fan I installed in my frig area and how I switched it. Some mount the fan up near the top of the chase but I had no room up there. Hopefully, this will at least give you something to look for.

Perhaps it's a solar powered fan for the fridge separate from the electrical system in your camper and it was off this morning cause of no sun? I had one years ago... but I installed a switch on it. Just a thought.
