Removing TV antenna

I have a CA-2500 batwing TV antenna installed on my camper, but I neither watch TV nor have a TV installed.

I'd like to remove the antenna to eliminate the incessant rattling in the wind, but I haven't been able to find a sturdy cap that'll fit over the base mount and can be securely sealed.

Has anyone removed this type of antenna and found a good way to cap it off?
  • We bought some rubber bumpers to mount to the bottom of the antenna so they rest on the roof and eliminate the noise. I believe they came from Home Depot and their designed use was to put them on the wall where door handles hit to stop the hitting noise and eliminate door handle marks or holes in the sheet rock. They have an adhesive back - just clean the antenna good where you're going to install them and no more noise.

  • Once antenna is down, just crank it a bit more to make it tight to roof deck, that my help.
  • Trackrig, thanks for the idea, I got the same antenna and it does rattle, until I put a layer of duct tape around the stalk.
Dr quick, this antenna does not crank down, it stays up and in place all the time.
  • If you want to remove the antenna get a teflon cutting board and cut it to the same size as the base or slightly larger to cover the hole on the roof. Then attach the teflon ring and seal it with Eterna Bond. I don't know if Dicor will adhere to teflon but I repaired a hole in the roof of a unit with a branch puncture using Eterna Bond and it lasted. On the inside ceiling there are plastic discs that are made to cover round electrical boxes and install that on the inside. Gerry
  • My camper has a seamless aluminum roof. I removed my TV antenna at least 8 years back, and made a patch for the roof out of some aluminum flashing. I covered one side of it with 4" wide Eternabond Double-Stick tape, which is essentially just the adhesive with a peel-off backer. I stuck it over the hole, caulked the perimeter with some kind of roof sealant, then sprayed it with white Krylon paint. It's never leaked.
