Edit; our intention is to have a single panel. We don't use a lot of juice. Is there any reason we would need a MPPT or will a PWM controller be sufficient for a small system?

MPPT will always help draw in more power but for a smaller system the price difference might not be worth it. It would be better to buy a 2nd panel if you have a fixed cost. MPPT controllers have come way down in price though. There's a 10 amp controller on Amazon.com for $68 US. It has great reviews. It will only handle up to a 130w panel, but that's exactly what you want. Model is "Tracer 1210RN".
