Rental tow vehicles (Enterprise truck rentals etc)

You better call them and make sure they allow you to tow a trailer with their vehicles. You will likely have to at least provide additional insurance for your trailer.

I have USAA they work with enterprise so the insurance won't be a issue, I was just wondering if anyone here had experience with enterprise with these rentals? The website says towing is permitted but there could be additional fers? The site doesn't say what these fees are and I googled all night looking for answers about it, I have a listing on uShip but want to avoid it if I can do this on my own. I think this service was reserved for business customers only until recently at least that's what I got out of what I read.

You are being a little too cavalier about insurance. Unless you specifically have a rider insuring your trailer, it probably will not be insured while being towed by a rental vehicle.

USAA uses Progressive for RV Insurance at a discounted rate, everything will be fully insured before I hook up, I have a policy on hold for the new trailer, everything is covered again not to sound rude but I am looking for someone that has dealt with Enterprise with these rentals so I can cover all my bases there may be unknowns I want to be prepared for,

My main concern is to prevent any surprises when dealing with enterprise because I am putting off buying 2 new rear tires to possiblity rent a TV if I run into any issues and can't correct them the day I need to pickup the TV I won't be able to get the tires they are special order were I live, my timeframe to pick up the TT is very narrow I have 3 days to get to NJ and get the TT into storage in SC, I am going to risk burning up my transmission if I use my Yukon because of the unknown mileage on it? A risk I want to avoid if possible mainly because the TT is going to be my home in 2 months and my Yukon is my only vehicle! I live in a area with no public transportation and everything is 20 plus miles from home. This would be a disaster because of my disability I would be lucky if I could walk a mile without winding up in the hospital. It sucks but it's what life dealt me, my wife is legally blind so that complicates things more, we each pull just under $1000 a month on SSI and I have been selling everything we don't need on eBay to help fund this (Purchase, Transport, Insurance, and Storage until I secure a monthly lot) we lost our paid for home in PA because of a Sewer upgrade mishap and had no recourse to sue the town for the failing Field stone foundation due to escavation being to close to my basement, that's another matter I had to put behind me, so here I am getting ready to live in a TT to save up $$$ to find a Rental home we can afford back up I'm western Pa, we moved out of our failing home in a rush and it drained us financially we are barely getting by with the high rents at our current location so I have to do what's nessary to get our lives back to normal.I refuse charity they closest is the gentalman that is selling me a 2005 Gulfstream for $2000.00 if it was free I would probably refuse it unless I was homeless or a family member was giving it to me and even then I would find a way to pay them back. That's just how I was raised.

I've never rented a truck from Enterprise, but there are some things to beware of when dealing with them.

If you look up the number for your local Enterprise, and press the choice for reservations on the menu, you get rolled NOT to your local Enterprise, but to a regional reservation service. There is no indication that you are not talking to someone at your local Enterprise. Well you are not. And the regional reservations center cannot see what is available at your local office. IOW the reservation is meaningless. I could go on about this...

BUT what you have to do is call the local office number and go on down the menu to get to the option for "front desk". That will get you the local office. ONLY the local office can make a meaningful reservation.

Enterprise runs some sort of regional/local franchise and often has strict rules about one way rentals and taking a vehicle out of state. This varies widely from one location to the next.

The bottom line is that you MUST speak with someone at the office you are planning to rent from, and nail down every detail. Then call a couple of days ahead of time and personally I would also call the day OF your rental, to make sure that your specific rental is available and nothing has changed.

Enterprise is a pretty lame rental outfit IMHO, I never use them except when forced to do so. Unfortunately they are the only option in many smaller towns.

I've had the exact opposite experience. I've never rented in any small towns so I could see if there are some franchise locations tied into other businesses they could be different than what you get in big cities. I've rented from all the big ones at airports all over and Enterprise is by far the best. Their customer service is the best, their car selection is great and they have a great process to get you in and out quickly.

You have to figure they are doing something right. They came on the scene +/- 20 years ago and took out all the old standards (Avis, Hertz, Budget) to become the top dog.

Willald on the Class A section used them for years until he bought his Excursion then upgraded to a motorhome. He always had good things to say.

Most of us don't rent tow vehicles, at least not regularly.
What not just call enterprise?

PS, I have t seen a HD pickup in the last 10-15 years that didn't have a 7way trailer plug and at least half have factory brake controllers. Going out on a limb, if they rent tvs for towing they have brake controllers.

Call your insurance, don't ask us what your insurance will cover.

If your ins covers it no need to "tell" them you're towing just to get soaked for extra charges. Just me, IMO, I'm not that risk averse. I towed a 20' trailer with a rental minivan once cause I had to and it had a hitch.

While I wouldn't use your Yukon for extensive traveling with a heavy trailer, I think you'll make it home with the trailer. Just baby it. Drop to low gear on the hills and use half throttle, go as slow as you have to. If you don't work it hard, it should be fine. You're going to drop some $$ on a truck rental that sounds like could be much better used on something else.
Are there any real mountain passes you have to cross?
