Personally...would rebuild and pocket the savings for something else
Key is to know your vehicle and decide on your own philosophy on vehicles
I keep mine till either the wheels fall off and can't/won't fix it anymore
or that I've fallen for something else (not likely...but if I can get
a hold of the 1 ton 4x4 Suburban in the used market...will/might jump at it)
Unibody/monocoque vehicles do get to a point where the wear and tear
on all of those spot welds become a squeaky ride...am wondering how
the new unibody/monocoque with many, many glued seams will hold up
over spot welds
Am close to that with my Suburban and been saving ever since the
last payment about 17 years ago...so have a bit to spend on whatever
That might be forced fed 7.4L that has been hogged out. Intercooler
and most likely have to design n build it myself. Inline OD of either
0.7 or 0.5 that is rated for the new power numbers...and don't expect
to find a good cam for such an old engine...just have it CC'd, flowed,
polished and maybe SS valves. Am told grinding/porting/blue printing
it isn't worth it, as GM did a good job of that from the factory
Rebuild the 4L80E to HD parts from one of the OEMs who rate their
rebuilds at +1000 ft/lbs.
Much more, as it will become a project vehicle...after the rebuild
of my 2 seater
I'm not a LAGS (latest and greatest...or fashion statement) person and
okay with driving what others consider heaps...yes my 1980 Silverado
does look like a heap...as long as I like it is all that matters...to me...
