I have yet to acquire a ton of seat time towing with our new RAM as we just acquired it last fall. However during my brake checks and while towing I see no noticeable difference at all between this RAM and my previous 2015 duramax. My brake checks consist of putting the truck in neutral then sliding it into drive, bring it up to maybe 2mph and activate the manual slider to initiate the trailer brakes which bring the whole rig to a full stop and hold it there until I let go of the slider. I then do the same with the vehicle brakes and you can listen to the trailer brakes being activated if you have the window down. Boom hit the road. I also always use my trailer brake w/ exhaust brake all the time to alleviate a lot of braking situations.
All ive had real lengthy experience with are on my duramax's with intergrated brake controllers. Gain set at 6.5. I was taught long ago by my father who drove semi all his life that you don't want your trailer stopping you, rather both vehicles working in tandem or youll burn your brakes up so I don't understand the want to lock your brakes up at 25mph to prove your brakes are "working" ? It would be my opinion that RAM designed the brakes to NOT lock up at that MPH simply to prevent damage to tires/brakes, not to mention you have zero control of your trailer if you force it into a skid on an emergency braking application. Again just my opinion, but I believe the brakes operate adequately and as they are designed too? again all I have to compare to is my duramax's which stopped the same 18,000LB rig almost identically, the only difference I DO notice is the exhaust brake on the ram is quite a bit more effective than my 2012, and 2015 duramax.
