The days of easily swapping in a bigger engine are long gone. Too much else to change with computerized vehicles now. Time to trade trucks.

This isn't the best option, but you could bolt on a supercharger or turbocharger.

760bs dry will end up at 9100lbs minimum ready to travel. That is 3/4 ton truck territory! I am in no way a member of the weight police, but 3/4 ton truck shopping is needed.

What Rear End do you have in your truck?

*Swap to 4.10 rear axle ratio.... $1,000 for 2wd
*install built 5.3 with more HP/TQ for towing $6,000-10,000
*install rebuilt trans with upgrades after new motor torches it....$5,000

Or leave it stock and let it rev on inclines

Or spend the same money and really upgrade to a 3/4 ton truck. For the price of the upgrades alone plus your current truck you can be sitting in a Dmax/Allison used truck or at the very least a sweet 8.1 or 6.0 3/4 Ton.

How old is the truck and what are the weight capacities? If the dry weight is 7600, figure you are close to 10,000 loaded and that's a nice point where bumping up to a 3/4 ton makes sense. You might be able to keep a 1/2ton within limits but are probably pushing it even with the new engine.

Seems silly to cobble something together to produce a marginal tow vehicle when you could for the same overall price get a truck that's better suited to the task.

What fulltimer said. You might be surprised. It cost some bucks, but not as much as you might think. Look at Summit's turnkey engines as well.
