Replacing a Thermostat

We have a 2005 Forest River wildwood 19Ex hybrid. The thermostat is not working anymore and I have tried to find info on the forums on replacing it with an inexpensive one from a hardware store. I was overewhelmed with all the posts and all seemed to be geared towards tstats for ac/furnace. Ours only controls the furnace not the Ac. Could someone give us some ideas.

  • The Hunter digital thermostat will control both the AC and the furnace and will be just fine for furnace only. This thermostat is well documented in campers.

If you want the tight temperature control of a digital thermostat it must use batteries(and you should carry spares).

  • Have you test the system to insure it is the thermostat?
Remove cover from thermostat, connect the two wires together, Furnace should start immeditely and produce heat shortly. Separate the wires and the furnace should stop producing heat and shut down in a few minutes.

if it doesn't start next to check is fuse. And don't just look at end of fuse to see if it is broken. Pull it out and maybe swap it with another same size just to make sure.
  • You should have a standard two wire millivolt thermostat like these.
