Replacing tank gauges.

Are gray water and black water gauges hard to replace or adjust?

Mine will not go below 1/3 full even when the tanks are empty and the TT is level.

Can they be shimmed or otherwise ajusted? Are they float operated.

+1. When the instrumentation quits (and it will) you will learn to fly "visual".

  • Easy to replace........just a rubber bung that slips into hole in tank and then the bung is compressed as you tighten screw. That's the easy part.

Access to them is the hard part.......
Underbelly of trailer covered.then that has to be removed
Tank installed up high, next to frame, next to other stuff......can be hard to get to the probes (factory guys get to install them prior to tank going into place)

    Probes get cruddy.......always showing level.

    4 probes
    2 lower ones......ground probe and 1/3
    middle probe.......2/3
    top probe.........full

There are other styles available......don't protrude thru tank wall, $$$ and you still have to have access

I haven't looked at our tank level monitor for over 6 yrs. Don't care.
    Toilet burbs....time to dump
Sink/shower start to drain slower than normal....time to dump

Check my installation of Horst Miracle Probes. If my present RV did not have an enclosed underbelly I'd do this mod to it as well.
  • I have had similar problem at times with our unit but did rinse tanks extra good. Used the hose black tank flush for longer than usual and found it got better after drying out. I agree on replacing the sensors not good option. Hope it works for you.
  • If you look online a bit you can find good explanations and pictures of how they work. There are a few different types. Mine are simple electrical contacts at different levels, and the water is the conductor. They are not adjustable and may just need a good cleaning. I decided to replace mine about a year ago, but I quickly discovered that was NOT going to happen! I didn't have enough room between the frame and the tanks to drill out the old ones and install the different type without dropping my tanks. And THAT was NOT going to happen after researching the procedure.
