FastGuns are very easy to have at too high a tension and this can damage the camper. The correct procedure is to measure the amount that the threaded section pulls out from the Fast Gun when the lever is lowered. It should pull out no more than 1/4" from the main body to get 300 lbs. of load support. More than 1/4" and the load will be greater than 300 lbs. on the camper's plates and where they attach to the structure of the camper.
I don't consider the Fast Guns easy to set too tight. When they are set correctly they take a decent pull on the handle. The difference of a turn or two on the threads changes the handle effort quite a bit to either too easy or too hard.
