Never driven a C class but it was off the list anyway due to lack of 4x4/high ground clearance.
If you don't need off road capabilities and don't mind having a dedicated vehicle being an RV a class C or short class A could be a great way to go.
We looked at Sprinter B and B+ models with slides but they were too cramped compared to 3 slide truck camper models like the Mammoth we ended up buying.
Having opposing slides makes a big difference. The one place the 2 slide B+ we looked at had the advantage was access to the bed. There may be newer models out now, it's been over a year since we were RV shopping.
As far as cost out camper was a bit under 50k Trucks will vary a lot depending on engine type and trim level.
Here is the unit we looked at. At the time it was about 120k list. We also didn't like some rumors we heard about the mercedes chassis maintenance costs. And we also didn't like the smaller holding tanks compared to the Mammoth. 40 vs 60 gallon for the fresh.
