We have been on a long trip too, northern route (I-90 mostly) from east TN to the Olympic Peninsula and southern route (I-40) back. I agree on the winds in Amarillo and the west Oklahoma plains. wow. I am pulling a 28ft. (30' 1" hitch to bumper) that weighs 6300 lbs. loaded with my Silverado 1500 with absolutely no problems. Worst grade I have encountered is 8% down, I just geared down and barely had to touch my brakes. Only problem we had is in Albuquerque a plug wire went bad and caused a misfire. Managed to get it into a dealer and they fixed it, running fine again.
I also agree with the beauty of this country. I have a new perspective of this country we live in. The Grand Canyon is beautiful, upper Idaho is beautiful, the Olympic Penn. is beautiful, Montana is mind blowing in its expansive vistas of land and hills. The Native American history is interesting. I am in awe of it all, and we get to live in east TN near the Smoky Mtns, which is beautiful. we are truly blessed.
