OK-Here is an answer from somebody who has done it. I towed a Forest River Shamrock 21RS (same as a Roo) for 5 years with an '05 4Runner with the 4.7 V8-2WD.
The 4Runner with the 109.5" wheelbase is not the best tow vehicle because in winds you have the old "tail wagging the dog". The 4.7 V8 is one of the best motors ever made and is used in LandRovers in other parts of the world. BTW-if the 4Runner has in excess of 100K the V8 does require a timing belt change. I wouldn't be afraid of a V8 4Runner with 100K on the clock.
Make sure the hitch on the 4Runner will take a weight-distributing hitch (I think after '05 or '06 Toyota actually put a lesser hitch, but a new one will bolt right in.
If your going to use this combo for short camping trips you will be fine. I wouldn't consider it for cross-country trips.
We wanted a bigger trailer so we traded in the 4Runner on the Silverado.
The 4Runner was much better built and refined than the 2011-1500 Silverado I purchased.
Good luck. PM me if you have any questions.
