Roll Up Bed Covers

Who uses a bed cover when the camper isn't on the truck? If I'm going to be at one place for a while, I take the camper off the truck. Easier to launch the boat and generally run around.

I'm looking for a bed cover that is easy to remove or roll up out of the way.... and doesn't increase the bed rail height....or increases it minimally.

I already have to use some rigid foam in the bed to raise the camper enough to clear the bed rails.
  • Will the bed cover mounting hardware that is attached to the inside of the top rail pose a clearance problem whenever you want to slide in the camper?
  • Well, I'm pretty surprised that it is all Truxedo with the large variety of covers out there .... Think I better check them out.
  • X2 on the Truxedo!!

Mine comes off during camper season and is stored in the original boxes alonside the t/gate, on the dolly the camper, tie-downs, Super truss ad chains are stored on in the non-camping season.
  • Well .... I just thought of another problem. When I'm camping and the camper off the truck....I'm also not going to have the tailgate with me. No way am I going to try to carry that around with me.
Don't know why I didn't think of that before.

That Truxedo Lo Pro does look like it comes on and off pretty easy. I may just have to resign myself to doing that since the width reduction may be a problem also. I don't have that much clearance now when loading the camper.
I could see the mount and/or the camper being damaged pretty easily.
  • I have one, but I believe it takes up too much room at the cab end of the bed to have it and the camper on the truck. Mine is aluminum and rolls into box type container right behind the cab. Its a hard surface and it locks pretty securely keeping things safe. I had a soft roll up tonneau cover on a different truck and that might be a solution, it rolled up pretty tight but still took up room right behind the cab.
On my trucks neither one would have bothered the bed rail clearance for the camper.

My roll up aluminum cover is Pace Edwards I think, and the soft one i can't remember what brand that was.
  • I have the truxedo low profile but my Northern lite camper fits very close to the side rails of my truck so I have to remove it to load the camper. It just depends on the size of the your camper in relation to your truck box. The rolled up part of the cover I believe would be fine in the front with your camper loaded. It would just shift forward a little. Its the side rails you need to pay attention to. The project upwards very little but they do shrink the available width for the camper a few inches.
