Roo 233s- who has one

Who has one and what are you towing it with? We have an expedition el and tow a jayco 23 B nicely. Looking to move to the Roo in the spring ( Jayco's gonna be 10 and we need the third bunk) . Any thoughts, tips or suggestions are appreciated.
  • With an SUV, ya gotta think of the GVWR. We did, however start towing our Jayco with a V8 4runner. It did ok, but the tail did wag the dog at times ...
  • The expedition is a lot more TV than what I have. I am thinking of the 23SS or the 233S, but have a V-8 4runner. I didn't even think about the GVWR, but should have enough to pull with my 7,200lb towing capacity. I am definitely getting the Equalizer WDH 10,000/1,000lb.
  • Yep. Gross combined weight rating is 15,000 pounds for this vehicle so you have nearly 8,000 pounds left over for the trailer.

I use the Equalizer 10,000/1000 pound WDH as tongue weight runs over 700 pounds from time to time. Once setup it's set up. Turn the air suspension OFF when setting up the WDH and measure carefully. The front suspension must compress or no weight transfer is occurring. Air suspension can go back on when done to get the last 1/4" out of being level.

As you get closer I can give you my Equalizer settings which will probably require no adjustment for your trailer since we have the same truck (although mine is an XLT specifically to avoid the air suspension!).

  • Yes HD towing, never weighed the combo but out of curiosity I weighed just the truck when we were
on another family trip, we had the dogs, all our things in the car, bikes on the back
and loaded for bear. We came in at 7100 lbs, 800 shy of Gvwr, so we should be good to go.
  • Does your Expedition have HD tow? Is so you're good to go. Pretty tight on the towing capacity if you don't but the HD engine and transmission radiators are standard Ford parts and bolt right in.

I'm towing a Roo 23SS, the same size as the Roo 233S. Lots of tongue weight with the Roos so a good WDH is mandatory.

  • there are tons of 233S owners on Forest River Forum's Hybrid section.
lots of mods and pics posted there.

you'd get more feedback there and quicker about the 233S.
