The fridge should definitely be turned off when fueling, turned off at the fridge panel. Many will tell you that they never bother to turn off the fridge and have had no problems and they are right, some percentage of the time...the thing about percentages is that they eventually catch up with you and in this case the boom can be devastating. The laws of nature cannot be changed. Gasoline fumes and sparks cause explosions, period. Some say they just turn off the propane at the tank - BAD idea, because of the fact that the fridges try to restart themselves several times when the propane is off and the fridge is on; they do this by sending a spark to the burner attempting to restart the fridge ....it is that spark which can ignite the gasoline fumes around the pumps.....my procedure is to stop just after pulling off the road and before approaching the pumps and go into the TT to turn off the fridge.....I turn it back on after I leave the pump area...... IMO pulling up to a fueling station with the fridge running is dangerously unsafe…….so to those of you who are smarter than science and nature please let me know when you are in town so I won’t be.
