I am by no means an expert, but my 2008 trailer has a Dometic fridge that seems to work off 12v. The fridge has an auto and gas setting. If I leave it on auto and unplug I can go around and not hear any signs of gas or hear the click click of the pilot lighting. I don't remember the last time I set it to gas only, but I do remember hearing the "furnace" type sound.
None of the AC outlets in the camper work unless I am plugged into a generator or campground, so I assume I don't have an inverter?
The "auto" setting will switch between 120VAC and propane. The "gas" setting will keep it on gas constantly.
I can hear mine switch if I am very quiet. It's very quick, and the flame is very small.
Just push the gas only and listen.
I used to NOT use gas while traveling. If its a 3-4 hour trip and your refer is packed it will stay cold.
2 years ago I started using gas while traveling. High temps and a 10 hour ride, and my milk was warm! It took forever to cool the fridge after getting to the cg cause the evening temps weren't much cooler than the day.
