Rust Protection

I just looked at your profile and see you have 2007 Chev Silverado D/A. If you are planning on spraying your undercarriage on a 2007 model, it's already too late. I see you are from Michigan. Michigan has some pretty salty roads in the winter. If you attempt to spray now, you'll just lock-in the rust and it will still continue to grow. Then if you need some kind of repair, you'll just have to fight through all the spray-on stuff to remove bolts and nuts and such.

Spraying now on a 2007 (if this is what you are planning), it's too late for the vehicle.... especially the bottom of your doors. There is no way to stop the rust now.

When purchasing my 2014 Chevy Silverado (see my signature block below), I had already inquired from a 3rd party company about an under carriage spray on rust protection. Got all the info and then closed the deal on our truck. I made a comment to the dealer after I "owned" the keys I had an appointment set up to get the under carriage treated. He said I didn't need to do that. I asked "Why?" He said my truck come from the factory now, already treated. No need to do it with a new vehicle. When he told me that, I immediately crawled under the truck, right there in the parking lot of the dealer, and sure 'nuf, it's got some kind of coating under there.

Soooooooo....... If your vehicle is NEW, you might check with your dealer before spending money on something that has already been done. I guarantee you, if you go to a 3rd party and want the under carriage of your vehicle treated ... they WILL do it, and never tell you it was already done.

Check with your dealer if it's already done.

Roads are heavily salted here. Rust protection is the only way to make a vehicle last if you plan to keep it long term. I alternate years between full treatment including doors etc and just the underside. Never had a vehicle rust out.

Never personally bought into the dealer corrosion gimmicks. Overpriced money makers and ineffective.

I use a product called Corrosion Free. Goes on like a gel, no drip and lasts long. Not sure about the US but there are a few Canadian retailers that apply it or you can do it yourself with the proper spray gun.

If you live in the salt belt it's still a problem.

Dodge, Chevy, Ford, Toyota, they all rust out here.

Don't fool yourself into thinking salt isn't a problem anymore. If you keep a vehicle long term it still does a lot of damage. A lot of people drive an old beater in bad weather.

Go get something like this. Spray inside the doors, bottom of fenders, inside the bedsides (through the holes inside the wheel wells), and in the rockers, cab corners, and any pockets where there are braces in the boxsides. Get on a creeper and if you see some place where you can spray it in, do it. If you have any questions, please message me with your phone number and i can give you a call. I'm a full time bodyman.

I really can't remember the last time I had a vehicle rust out on me. I think it may have been a 1985 mustang. I don't think its necessary anymore.
