Welcome. Before you jump into that deal, I'd recommend that you find a way to stay in a travel trailer in cold weather for a couple of days, just to see what it's like. RVs are not well insulated, so you will feel the cold drafts and the furnace will run half the time (or more). When the furnace goes off, the temp swing will be much greater than what you'd experience in a house or apartment. In other words, it can be quite uncomfortable. And the furnace is noisy as all get-out!
If you want to feel like you're in a trailer but you don't plan to move it, why not look for a mobile home park? A single-wide mobile home will be much less drafty and better insulated, and rent price might be pretty similar to what you're looking at. You might even be able to locate and buy a used mobile home for $3000-$5000, and then just rent the lot.
I can understand how you feel about returning to old stompin' ground. I feel the same way about the state I grew up in (Michigan) and try to get back there every summer for a visit. (Not that I'd want to visit in winter, though! Brrr.)
