As far as being overpriced, I think the Airstream trailer is the only RV on the road today that you could use your entire life, then hand down to your children. So dollar for dollar, it's a bargain!
I suspect that you may be right although after looking at RVs of similar length and features, and having far more space (slideouts) it is simply too hard to part with (for example) $74,000 for an Airstream that is say 28' long when you could buy a similar length trailer with more living space for much less than half that amount. My wife's comment on them - they remind her of being in an airplane when it comes to spaceand we all know what that connotes - being cramped. For us, it is much easier to equate big bucks with space. That said I do like Airstreams although it is extremely unlikely I will ever own one.
Another thing I noticed at the Show was fake backsplashes. I am looking at adding a backsplash behind my sink and all around my stove, so one of the main reasons for gong to the show was to look at backsplashes. What I saw was a preponderance of paper printed to look like brickwork - how disappointing! And I am talking in big 5th wheels and trailers where weight for a few tiles would not be an issue, especially if some material which could give a 3-dimensional surface texture more closely approximating brick were used. Could even be plastic, but paper?! I plan to use Smart Tiles.
