RV show workd as planned...

My wife and I have been looking since last fall for a new travel trailer. We found a model we liked (sonic 220vrb) at a local dealer.

That was all fine and good until we attended the rv show here in Chicago last weekend.

My wife found the Forest River Flagstaff Micro Lite 21FBRS. It has about the same layout as the sonic but the kicker for my wife was that the fridge is right by the door. No having to put the slide out to get at it to load it up or to get lunch on the side of the road.

The weight (for those weight police) fits in nicely with the tow vehicles specs. and it is 4 foot shorter than the sonic so it should fit nicely in the barn without causing any busted shins.

Now for my due diligence.. Any opinions on this trailer good bad or things to look out for?

This is exactly the same floorplan as our Coachmen Freedom Express 192RBS, the difference being I have more than a ton of cargo carrying capacity whereas this MicroLite offers just 1200 lbs. Having seen ours, friends of ours bought a Starcraft Launch 21FBS which is the same floorplan but also has the same problem as the MicroLite - not a lot of CCC.

With the fridge mounted on the rear wall expect a pretty small bathroom, about as small as they get, and expect to find fridge contents to get tossed around pretty good. Other than that it's a great floorplan for an adult couple and in a size of trailer that can be parked on pretty well any campsite you may ever come across, a particular advantage if you're like us and prefer to not reserve ahead of time but merely show up and grab whatever may be available - often the only choice anyway when you're traveling long distances. We also find the rear entry door to be an advantage, especially with a short trailer like this, as it means I'm much less likely to disturb my wife as she sleeps in late when camping. And yes, whether the sofa slide is deployed or not I can access everything in the trailer ... in fact, at times when I'm camping solo with just our dog along for the ride or we're doing a quick overnight stop I'll often not even bother deploying the slide - no issues at all.

Thanks. Moving up from a pop up so we don't have a lot of stuff to carry. I think the carrying capacity will be ok. It's just my wife and I and a medium sized dog.

  • We were seriously considering one until we came upon the one we have. The fit and finish of the MicroLite was better than most and it had most everything already on it. Our Dart just was a little more to our liking and about 5 grand less.
  • I would go to the forest river forum and see what they are saying about it.
