I use a regular garden hose to fill the tank at home. I let a few gallons run through the hose and in the street before I start to fill the tank. Our city water will kill about anything. You can let the water sit out for a week and it will still kill a goldfish in a few hours.
For hookups I use an RV fresh water hose made for potable water.
For long distance I have 300' of that flat collapsible hose on a reel. Has worked very well in Yosemite and Death Valley. Stays home unless needed.
