Not a truck camper related story but we were in a crown victoria rental car back in 2000 going 55 mph in the slow lane on a crowded freeway around 7 pm in the Sacramento area and were struck from behind by a girl and her boyfriend who had to be going about 100 mph ! I say that because it picked the back of the crown vic up about 4 feet in the air and spun it around backwards. This was kinda cool because now we had a perfect view of the front of her mid size Chrysler dig into the pavement and flip her car end over end so perfectly that it landed back on all 4 wheels. Naturally, it was destroyed (by insurance standards) .... crushed front, rear and top. In the meantime, our crown vic had been accelerated going backwards by the impact and I used all my Need for Speed and Test Drive video game skills to maneuver the car between the rest of the traffic, traversing all lanes and ending up still backwards alongside the center divider without so much as touching another car. Remarkably the girl and her boyfriend didn't have a scratch on them. Her explanation was that her cell phone rang and she was fumbling for it to answer it. The question of speed never entered the conversation and the CHP was more eager to get her car pushed off to the side and get traffic flowing again. They wrote her a "Failure to stay in lane" ticket and left as quickly as they could. It was her mom's car and it was insured, so was my rental. All in all, quite an eventful evening :-)
