Not a distraction? Tell it to the mother of this little girl who was among four killed! 11 year old killed by truck driver on his phone
The article also describes phone "detectors" that will be used in the UK to warn (not ticket) cell phone users.
Curiously (NOT), even with this never ending bad news on the rise, it’s apparant that there’ll always be some folks who just see this as just benign form of collateral damage (something that happens to “the other guy”...), just the acceptable price to be paid for the wonders of instant personal convenience...Par for the gene-pool I suppose, “Just keep on moving, there’s nothing to see here”...Ring-Ring....
I think that you are unknowingly pointing out part of the problem and answer. Humans as a whole look for answers, black and white, solutions. But we live in a fairly complex world, and with that, every cause (answer) has an effect.
I think the point that many have been trying to make, is this 'effort' to eradicate and/or control the perceived bad guy (in this case, the cell phone) already has a solution, which will never be perfect. It's already against the law...everywhere in this country... to drive like an idiot. Education is great, but there will always be someone that makes a bad decision and bad things will happen. I'm not saying it's ok...I'm just ok with the fact that it will never be perfectly 'safe'. And I for one, sure and the hell don't want to try and create a utopia where it would be. Because it still wouldn't be...but you'd be so hamstrung from regulations and laws that you couldn't say or do anything. And bad things would still happen. Because we're human.
I find it sadly humorous when I read staunch opinon's like "lock them up" and worse. Really? Here's the deal; if you actually kill someone while on a phone because of the phone/conversation, whatever, you WILL pay the price. But do you really wish upon your family and friends a world where thy get locked up regardless, because they 'could have' caused a bigger problem? Because that's what it would look like.
I read your comments with an open mind, but from my view it sounds like a pragmatic justification for the status quo of complacency...While some new boogyman law is not where the answer lies, this threat might be easily addressed via a rudimentary, passive technology, not unlike the circuit breaker in an electrical panel, or even self-locking latch on one’s front door...
No need to be led into the weeds - Surely Rocket Science, this Ain’t....
